THE ROLE
Set on an expansive site with brand new facilities and equipment, including a state of the art, 1200 sqm tissue culture facility that can accommodate up-to 50 staff, we
have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Laboratory Technician to join our team.  Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor, your role is vital to ensuring the integrity and quality of the tissue culture process. 

Ideally, you will be responsible for the timely preparation of tissue culture media and its components for various plant species. You are also required to maintain stock records for equipment and consumables in the laboratory and associated storage areas as well as assist managers and supervisors with administrative tasks required and including maintaining the cleanliness of the lab and its facilities and equipment. Some of your key duties will include: 

  • Prepare various types of plant tissue culture (TC) media and stock solutions according to specific recipes and protocols, sterilising them using autoclaves.
  • Label media accurately and maintain inventory records, conducting regular checks as needed.
  • Keep accurate records of media preparation and autoclave cycles.
  • Coordinate with Plant Production Manager and Lab Supervisor to ensure sufficient TC media is prepared to meet order requirements.
  • Assist in coordinating and packing plant deliveries, recording relevant data as needed.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment by performing basic maintenance activities such as daily cleaning, following maintenance and cleanliness schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety policies, procedures, and guidelines, including on-the-job safety instructions


SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Previous experience working in a plant TC laboratory or equivalent
  • Ability to be able to train others in standard procedures and operating instructions
  • Work well within a team 
  • Be able to communicate clearly and succinctly with others including in the delivery of written communication
